Cookies are short strings of text that visited websites send to the user's browser (i.e., the program used to navigate the Internet, for example: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge, etc.), where they are stored before being retransmitted to the same websites during subsequent visits. While browsing, the user may also receive cookies on their browser from parties other than the owner of the visited website (so-called "third parties").

Cookies can be classified as:

  • technical cookies - which allow for activities strictly related to the operation of the site and can be used freely;
  • profiling cookies - used to send advertising messages to users in line with the preferences expressed during browsing and for which the user's consent is required.
